On Saturday, August 24th, the skies above Orillia, Ont. were buzzing with excitement as aviation enthusiasts gathered for the Orillia Fly-in/Splash-in. Organized by COPA Flight 110 (The Ontario Seaplane Association), Lake Country Airways, and Orillia Aviation, this event brought together a diverse crowd of pilots and spectators for a day full of flying, driving, and connecting with fellow aviation lovers.
The day was blessed with beautiful sunny weather, perfect for both flying and outdoor fun. People arrived by both air and land. The Orillia Fly-in/Splash-in was more than just a collection of aircraft; it was a celebration of the aviation community. Pilots and enthusiasts had plenty of chances to connect, share stories, and admire each other’s aircraft. Throughout the day, there was plenty to see and do. From the impressive lineup of aircraft on the ground to the thrilling takeoffs and landings on the water, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Adding to the unique charm were two Amphicars, which were already spotted in the water. These amphibious vehicles smoothly drove up the ramp from the lake and parked between the aircraft on the tarmac. Seeing these cars emerge from the water and join the planes was a delightful and nostalgic moment that caught everyone’s attention.
This year’s event was particularly special, as it marked the return of the Fly-in/Splash-in after a hiatus since 2019, when it was last organized by the previous airport owner. The success of this event was a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the organizers and volunteers, who ensured everything ran smoothly and that everyone had a memorable experience.
The Orillia Fly-in/Splash-in was a fantastic day that brought the aviation community together in a joyful celebration of flight and friendship. With its beautiful weather, diverse aircraft, and enthusiastic attendees, the event truly highlighted the passion and spirit that make the world of aviation so special.
