Board of Directors Candidate Profile
Ron Wood is a lifelong passionate advocate for General Aviation, a passion which began during childhood visits to the Moose Jaw Airforce Base, where his uncle was stationed. The first aircraft he ever sat in was a CT-114 Tutor, sparking an enduring interest in aviation. This passion grew further when he earned a gliding scholarship through the Air Cadets. Although work and family took precedence for a time, his aviation journey resumed in 2001 when his wife gifted him a flying lesson for his birthday. Encouraged by her support, he became a licenced pilot in 2003 and has since accumulated 420 hours of flight time.
While most of his flying is personal, in recent years Ron has also contributed to search and rescue missions as a member of CASARA. In 2008, he purchased his first aircraft, a Zenair 601 HDS homebuilt, which led to active involvement with the local EAA chapter (EAA 154). Over the years, he has served in various roles within the chapter, including nine years as president.
A member of COPA since 2002 and a long-time participant in COPA Flight 4 in Regina, Ron has contributed to the local chapter in numerous ways. His current aircraft are a Piper Cherokee 180 and a Zenair CH701.
Professionally, Ron’s experience as a technician and manager with SaskTel has equipped him with strong project management skills. He is committed to using these skills to ensure that Saskatchewan pilots have a strong voice within COPA, advocating for the continued protection of their rights and freedoms to fly.
If elected I hope to get out and visit all the provincial COPA flights at their events or meetings. It would be wonderful to meet more of the great aviators the province has and be an active, available representative for COPA.
