NOTAM affecting single engine piston training

Win

Summary of the Issue

A NOTAM was issued at Winnipeg’s James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG), restricting general aviation activities. This limitation affected local pilots, flight schools, and recreational flying by reducing access to the airport’s airspace and disrupting regular training and personal flight operations.

What is COPA doing?

When a NOTAM was issued that restricted General Aviation activities at Winnipeg’s James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG), COPA brought together local pilots, FTUs, stakeholders, and local NAV CANADA air traffic personnel and staff to discuss the issue.

Through open discussion and collaboration during our meeting, we were able to clearly communicate the significant impact the NOTAM had on both recreational and training flights. The discussion created a productive dialogue between the airport authority, NAV CANADA, and local stakeholders. Highlighting the concerns of local stakeholders, discussions ultimately led to NAV CANADA committing to discontinue the NOTAM and instead move forward with further dialogue on a solution agreed upon by stakeholders.

COPA remains committed to ensuring General Aviation access to airspace and encourages collaborative solutions with industry wherever possible.
