In the vast expanse of the aviation world, there are stories that soar above the clouds, tales of determination, skill, and unwavering passion for flight. Among these narratives lies the journey of myself, whose interest in aviation begins with a dream that started long before coming to Canada.  As an ex-South African, planes and airports were my go-to fun times, whenever school and education allowed me free time. My best memories are those when my father would drive for over an hour to go to our international airport, where I would get to watch endless take-offs and landings… I was hooked!

With over 600 hours of flying experience, my dream became a reality through the great instructors from Laurentide Aviation. On earning my wings, I embarked into the great world of general aviation.  Over the years, and after meeting my husband, I became acquainted with COPA, a community which provides transformative power of camaraderie and collaboration in aviation.  This organization opening doors to a world of learning and empowerment.

COPA's ethos revolves around inclusivity and support for pilots of all backgrounds and experience levels. Through their recurrency programs, pilot discussions, and safety seminars, COPA has provided a platform to continuously refine my skills, expand my knowledge, and connect with fellow aviators.

Knowledge given within COPA's community has also assisted in my growth as a pilot, offering a network of support and learning along the way.

One of the most cherished aspects of COPA membership is the sense of community it fosters. Whether it's gathering for a $100 hamburger fly-in or simply hanging out with like-minded pilots, COPA events provide a space for connection and discussions. These events are not just about the destination; they are an opportunity to share stories, exchange insights, and celebrate a shared passion for aviation.

Moreover, COPA's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the aviation community is particularly noteworthy. As a woman pilot, COPA is shattering stereotypes and inspiring other women to pursue their aviation dreams.

COPA is a testament to the profound impact that community and collaboration can have on individual pilots and the aviation industry as a whole. By fostering an environment of safety, education, and the willingness to continuously grow, organizations like COPA play a pivotal role in shaping the future of aviation. Through their unwavering dedication, they inspire the next generation of aviators and ensure that the skies remain a safe place, where dreams can take flight.

From a little girl’s dream longing to fly, to achieving this through determination and perseverance, my journey has allowed me the privilege of appreciating the value of a great organization such as COPA, who embodies the spirit of adventure, resilience, and camaraderie that defines the aviation community.

My story, one of many, serves as a reminder of the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to dream, and the importance of organizations like COPA in nurturing those dreams to fruition.

COPA’s advocacy programs allows us the ultimate freedom to fly, and makes the commitment to keeping GA alive!
