COPA Flight 203 successfully held another Discover Aviation Day on September 13, 2025, bringing smiles and excitement to over 140 children as they took to the skies at Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport. This exciting event gave children the unique opportunity to experience flight firsthand, after completing a comprehensive ground school to introduce them to the fundamentals of aviation.

The day began with a picturesque sunrise and a bit of fog, but by the time the planes were ready to take off, the weather cleared up, providing perfect flying conditions. The children, arriving in groups of 25 with their parents and siblings, were greeted warmly and registered for their flight experience.

After registration, each group was escorted to various stations where they learned about different aspects of aviation, from aircraft maintenance to flight safety. The ground school was an engaging and informative session, with children eager to soak up everything they could about flying.

As the day went on, the pilots, all volunteers from COPA, prepared their aircraft while the young aviators waited eagerly to meet their pilots. The Air Cadets were on hand to help escort the children safely to their planes and ensure that everyone was ready for their adventure in the skies. The joy and excitement were evident on every child's face as they took off and soared above the airport.

The highlight of the event was, of course, seeing the kids return from their flights, their faces beaming with happiness and wonder. It’s always a heartwarming experience to see how excited they are about aviation, and many expressed interest in pursuing flying as a hobby or career in the future.

After their flights, the children were escorted to the certificate table, where they received a certificate commemorating their day of flight, and were reunited with their families. To wrap up the event, everyone enjoyed a casual meal of hot dogs, chips, veggies, and dip – a perfect ending to a fun and educational day.

A huge thank you goes to the local Air Cadets for their valuable assistance, as well as to the dedicated volunteers, pilots, and all those who made this event possible. Their hard work and commitment to inspiring the next generation of aviators are what make events like this so successful.

With the success of this year’s event, COPA Flight 203 looks forward to continuing to inspire young people and give them the opportunity to explore the world of aviation.
