COPA’s Board of Directors is a national volunteer board comprised of 16 Board Members across the country that help govern Canada’s largest General Aviation association. COPA’s Board of Directors oversees the organization and helps set its strategic priorities. Members of the board are elected by COPA members.
In adherence to our by-laws, and due to a vacancy for the region, the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association is seeking nominations to fill the position of Regional Director Board Member representing the Newfoundland and Labrador region. Nominations will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. NDT on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Board Members serve a 4-year term with elections taking place according to the following schedule:
Regions electing directors in years divisible by 4 (2024, 2028, 2032, 2036, ...):
- Newfoundland and Labrador (1 position)
- Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick "The Maritimes Region" (2 positions)
- Northern Ontario (1 position)
- Manitoba and Nunavut (1 position)
- Saskatchewan (1 position)
- Alberta and Northwest Territories (2 positions)
Regions electing directors in years divisible by 2 but not divisible by 4 (2026, 2030, 2034, 2038, ...)
- Quebec (2 positions)
- Southern Ontario (3 positions)
- British Columbia and the Yukon (2 positions)
Why serve on the COPA Board of Directors?
Serving on COPA’s Board is a rewarding opportunity for those passionate about aviation, including the remotely piloted sector. As a Board member, you’ll play a key role in shaping the Association’s future, ensuring its management and activities align with the best interests of COPA members. This role carries significant responsibilities under the Federal Not-for-Profit Act, COPA By-laws, and Policies.
A significant commitment of volunteer time and effort is required, including:
- Attendance at both regular and ad hoc Board meetings, in-person and virtual. There are typically two virtual meetings, two in-person meetings, plus the AGM. Attendance at in-person meetings may involve travel, with expenses reimbursed as per COPA policies.
- Attendance at monthly Executive Committee meetings is required only if selected as a member of the Executive Committee, along with other Committee meetings as needed.
- Chairmanship or participation in various COPA committees.
- Regular interaction with COPA Flights and COPA members in your region.
- Representation of COPA at local and national events, acting as an ambassador for the Association
