COPA AGM (1-4 P.M. ET, JUNE 26)

Open to COPA members, the Annual General Meeting for the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association will provide an update on the finances and operations of the organization.

MORNING COFFEE WITH JETPRO (10-10:30 A.M. ET, JUNE 27)

The past twenty years has marked tremendous changes in the navigation capability of aircraft with satellite-based navigation. A key component of those benefits is the ability to use satellite-based navigation to improve the safety of flight but also the accessibility of airports. For many COPA members, it is a struggle to keep the airport open in the face of government budget challenges. By adding satellite-based instrument flight procedures to airports, the utility and viability of these airports improve as they facilitate more traffic, particularly medical evacuation flights and corporate flights. And, they add to the increasing safety for pilots and aircraft.

This presentation will describe what satellite-based instrument approaches and departures are and how they add significant value to airports are a relatively low cost.

OPENING KEYNOTE WITH ROBIN HADFIELD, DIRECTOR, THE NINETY-NINES, INC.®, INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN PILOTS (10:30-11:00 A.M. ET, JUNE 27)

Start the day off with inspiration by participating in Robin Hadfield’s opening keynote.

CO-PILOTING SEMINAR (11-12 P.M. ET, JUNE 27)

Does your flying partner know what to do if you suddenly become unresponsive? In this co-piloting workshop, designed for the non-pilot in mind, attendees will learn how to navigate emergency situations and on the basic principles of flight. Our two speakers for this session are Sonia Hildesheim and Stephanie Theiler, two pilots from Jazz Aviation.

LATEST DRONE DEVELOPMENTS AT COPA AND EDMONTON AIRPORTS (YEG AND ZVL) (11-12 P.M. ET, JUNE 27)

Canada is a country of many firsts. Did you know that Edmonton International Airport was the first airport in the world to integrate drones into its daily operations? EIA uses drone technology for bird control and runway inspections. Please note, the project is safe and in collaboration with both TC and NAV CANADA. To learn more about drone usage in aviation – specifically at both Edmonton and Villeneuve Airports, attend this session. At the same time, COPA will provide an update on our new drone membership options.

Get yourself ready by attending our workshop with Doug Evink, President and CEO of Tanis Aircraft Products on the basics of aircraft preheating. Tanis Aircraft Products is the leading manufacturer of Aircraft Engine Preheat systems.

PILOT RECURRENT TRAINING: LANDING PORTION OF FLIGHT AND FLIGHT SAFETY REVIEW OF GA INCIDENTS AND ACCIDENTS (1-3 P.M. ET, JUNE 27)

As a pilot in Canada, you need to practice certain skills or complete training every 2 years. Recurrent training ensures your skills are, at a minimum, what they were when you earned your certificate or rating. COPA’s safety seminar on the landing portion of flight and on a flight safety review meets the requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations. A live Q&A will occur between 3:40-4:00 p.m.

CONNECTING PILOT PERFORMANCE WITH PILOT WELLBEING (1-2 P.M. ET, JUNE 27)

Let’s talk about mental health in aviation. No, but really. Many of our flying friends suffer mental health challenges in silence and the numbers say it all as these issues are mostly unknown in aviation. Curious why? Well, being labelled with a mental health disorder in aviation may have consequences, including: stigma and discrimination (perceived and real); grounding; additional costs as it relates to examinations and treatment to obtain/maintain medical certification; and fear of loss of employment. At our Virtual National Fly-In and Aviation Expo, we’re going to tackle this topic, working to connect pilot performance with pilot wellbeing. Speakers Ryan Van Haren, Teara Fraser, Gord Stevens and Christine Gervais will explore leadership; health and wellbeing; carving out our own paths and help to redefine what it means to be a pilot – from its current image of being stoic to being the complex beings we each individually are.

By raising awareness, we hope to strengthen mental health in aviation and to help decrease the associated risks to aviation safety.

BEST PRACTICES FOR TRANSITIONING FROM TRADITIONAL TO REMOTE AVIATION (2-3 P.M. ET, JUNE 27)
