Harvard Flips At Owen Sound
A 46-year-old pilot and his 21-year-old female passenger were slightly injured when the Harvard they were in flipped after departing the runway at the Owen Sound Wings and Wheels Show last weekend.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, which damaged an aircraft owned by the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association.
“I can’t say what happened because we don’t know ourselves,” Pat Hanna, past-president of the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association told the Owen Sound Sun Times. “Crosswinds were present at the time.”
The aircraft struck a small berm after leaving the runway, causing it to nose over. The pilot was treated in hospital and released while the passenger was treated at the scene.
Hanna told the newspaper it was the first such accident involving a CHAA aircraft in 32 years of operation.
The airport was closed briefly but reopened to allow fly-in traffic to depart.
