COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

Want to be part of the team that is shaping the future of general aviation in Canada? COPA is looking for a full-time Communications Coordinator to help tell our story in digital and in print.

Reporting to the President and CEO and working in close collaboration with all COPA team members, the ideal candidate will be an avid storyteller with a desire to dig deep, have excellent writing skills in both French and English, and know the ins and outs of social media outreach.

What you will do

The Communications Coordinator will:

  • Develop and execute communications and outreach plans to support COPA initiatives and funding activities, promote member programs, and expand the Association’s social media presence.
  • Write for COPA magazine, weekly newsletters, direct mail campaigns, annual reports, websites, social media and more.
  • Provide technical assistance to member programs on external relations.
  • Manage the structure and content of the COPA website.
  • Analyze data pertaining to website and social media use and effectiveness as related to fundraising and awareness activities.
  • Assist in event planning and implementation.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • A demonstrated understanding of general aviation and a commitment to advance and promote COPA’s mission.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in both French and English.
  • Demonstrated creative project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as an attention to detail.
  • A high level of individual initiative and creativity, and experience working with diverse populations.

What to expect

This permanent position is based in Ottawa.
Travel may be required.

DIRECTOR, EXTERNAL RELATIONS

Want to be part of the team that is shaping the future of general aviation in Canada? COPA is looking for a Director, External Relations to lead our strategic communications and advocacy efforts.

Reporting to the President and CEO, and as a key member of COPA’s leadership team, the ideal candidate will have experience in public relations and stakeholder engagement, as well as a good understanding of aviation policy development and advocacy.

What you will do

The Director, External Relations will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to elevate COPA’s public image.
  • Raise awareness of issues facing general aviation in Canada.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with COPA stakeholders including Transport Canada, NAV Canada and sister associations.
  • Provide counsel to the President and CEO and other senior team members as well as develop advocacy positions and deliver their successful communication.
  • Assist the CEO in researching funding opportunities for COPA.
  • Work with the executive team to develop the organization’s legislative priorities and monitor current legislation and government regulations.
  • Act as the government liaison and spokesperson for the organization as well as represent COPA at events.

What we are looking for

 The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a university degree in public relations, marketing, communications or related field, with aviation experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills, including planning and prioritisation.
  • Have at least 5 years of management experience.
  • Demonstrate experience working with media, public and/or government officials.
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), Canadian Aviation Regulation Advisory Council (CARAC) processes, Transportation Safety Board reporting, NAV CANADA, Transport Canada Civil Aviation structure.
  • Preferably have a fixed wing Private Pilot’s License (PPL) or higher (CPL, ATPL).
  • Preferably be bilingual (French and English).
  • Be able to work under pressure and demonstrate an ability to think strategically, while dealing with the day-to-day.
  • Have strong writing as well as interpersonal and presentation skills.
