Our Guest Speaker is Mr. John Ross. Please see below for a quick summary of what you might expect John to discuss;
During most of John’ Ross’s life, Electronics and Aviation have been intertwined. His father, trained in electronic communications, in the late 1930’s became one of the founders what is now Air Canada.
John had an exceptional career with CBC Television, has an engineering degree, and spent 46 years leading the development of advanced TV broadcasting equipment. His inventions such as the green screen and equipment for live programming are used daily by most TV stations around the world. Some special equipment he designed for NASA is still flying high on the International Space Station. In 1968, John obtained his pilot licence. He then purchased a derelict 1943 Taylorcraft L2 US Army trainer and acquired his mechanic skills during a complete restoration. He now owns a Citabria and Cherokee 235.
Shortly after arriving in Iroquois in 1974, he designed and built the current Iroquois Airport and later, many of the nearby recreational facilities such as the updated beach, paths and the new Airport and Campground building. His company, Ross Video, is the largest local employer and has over 900 employees world-wide.
His awards include “Officer of the Order of Canada”, and many other major awards including the recent “Honourary Member”, the highest award of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. His name has been added to the list of previous recipients such as Edison, Disney, Dolby, George Lucas and about 60 others who received the same recognition over the last 104 years.
