George’s aviation journey began in Wisconsin, continued with rebuilding his Aeronca Bluebird, and led to creating CTQ2, a 2,600-foot grass strip in Stanstead, QC. Now 85, he still hosts annual fly-ins, celebrates cross-border aviation friendships, and pursues new ideas like Project CANUSA and an innovative eVTOL design.
Sunday September 8, 2024 saw scattered clouds with temperatures on the ground at 16C in brisk winds at the Brampton-Caledon Airport (CNC3) in Brampton, Ont. By noon, the clouds changed to an overcast layer with brief rain showers. The Brampton Flight Centre, owners of the airport, opened up their doors to the community and public every year.

Sunday August 25, 2024 saw CAVOK weather in most of south eastern Ontario, setting up near perfect flying conditions for the 28th annual RAA Fly-In at HawkeField (CHF4) in Orono, Ont. The event was hosted by Hannu Halminen and the Recreational Aircraft Association (RAA). Admission was free, whether you drove or flew in for the event.
On Saturday, August 24th, the skies above Orillia, Ont. were buzzing with excitement as aviation enthusiasts gathered for the Orillia Fly-in/Splash-in. Organized by COPA Flight 110 (The Ontario Seaplane Association), Lake Country Airways, and Orillia Aviation, this event brought together a diverse crowd of pilots and spectators for a day full of flying, driving, and connecting with fellow aviation lovers.
Trillium Aviators have become a bit of a phenomenon in Ontario over the past few years. Through Ivan Kristensen’s tireless volunteer efforts, the Trillium Aviators will be entering their sixth season of gathering like-minded pilots and aviation enthusiasts for mid weak fly outs to destinations in southern Ontario.
August 11, 2024 saw the 33rd annual Gathering of The Classics (GOTC) at Edenvale, Ont. As with previous years, the event focuses on aircraft and classic cars. The organizers report that there were 60 aircraft that flew in, 396 automobiles, 2,000 attendees, 92 volunteers, food trucks, and vendors participating in the fly and drive in event.
Earlier this year, Canada’s only national general aviation association signed an exclusive agreement with air shows across Canada to bring Canadian pilots and aviation enthusiasts together. The new partnership will offer COPA members exclusive viewing areas at acclaimed air shows across during a pivotal year for aviation as Canadians celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

A few type clubs, such as Mooney, Beechcraft and Cessna organize mass arrivals for their aircraft type into EAA Air Venture. This year, five Canadian aircraft participated in the Cessna mass arrival. The Cessna 2 Oshkosh group has been organizing the Cessna mass arrival since 2007. The mass fly into AirVenture took place on Saturday July 20th with 64 aircraft and 46 passengers.
