On August 14, COPA President and CEO Marcia Kim has joined AOPA leadership in sending a joint letter to Minister of Transport Chrystia Freeland, calling for the immediate acceptance of U.S. pilots operating under the FAA’s BasicMed program to fly in Canadian airspace.
As NAV CANADA continues to restrict VFR flights due to staffing shortages, COPA urges immediate action to restore predictable access to controlled airspace and address the systemic issues behind these long-standing service gaps.
As Canada moves forward with its ADS-B mandate, COPA co-leads an industry working group to address operational, regulatory, and technical challenges, ensuring pilot concerns are heard.
Since the Johannesson v Municipality of West St. Paul case in 1952, the question of the exclusive federal jurisdiction over aeronautics has often been challenged by other levels of government. COPA remains vigilant to safeguard aeronautics solely under federal jurisdiction.
